Introduction to Pay Rates
Pay Rates are the amounts you pay your contractors for the work they perform and are used when generating payroll.
When you first create a user, the starting pay rate will be the default entered on the Company Info page.
These rates each have an effective date so you can schedule rate future changes. The rates are broken into the following levels, each one overriding the one before it:
- User Pay Rate
- Client Pay Rate
- Prospect Pay Rate
User Pay Rate
This is the standard amount that this contractor will be paid by you for all the work they do for any client in any prospect - unless you override it by configuring a Client Daily Pay Rate or a Prospect Daily Pay Rate.
Client Pay Rate
If you would like to pay a contractor a different amount for work they do for a specific client, you can add a client pay rate to override the standard User Pay Rate.
Prospect Pay Rate
If you would like to pay a contractor a different amount for work they do in a specific prospect, you can add a Prospect Pay Rate to override the Client Daily Pay Rate and User Pay Rate.
Configuration
All of these pay rates can be configured on a user's Pay Rates tab. See the Configuring Pay Rates article to learn how to do so.
Additional Information
When calculating the pay rate to use for a specific time entry, Landboss first looks to see if there is a prospect specific pay rate that is in effect, then if it doesn't find one it checks for a client specific pay rate, falling back to the user's base pay rate.

Similar to Pay Rates, Bill Rates are the amounts used to invoice your clients for your contractors' work. Like Pay Rates, Bill Rates can be customized by contractor, client, and prospect. See the Introduction to Bill Rates to learn more.
